Force 4's Start Sequence Shows Favored End of Line & Favored Side of Course

The Start Sequence Display analyses the upwind leg and indicates the favored end of starting line.

The Force 4 Start Sequence display has multiple functions. In the example below, the boat is to the right of the starting line with endpoints S1 and S2, with the upwind mark to the left at mark 17. There is a flood current running (red vectors) which favors the left side of the course. The 'START SEQUENCE' inset shows the end of the starting line (red boxes) and boat position (blue box). The favored end of the line is indicated by the dashed line connecting it to the mark. The VMG display (see VMG) is used to show the favored side of the course. The larger the green circle, the better velocity-made-good to the mark. In the example, the display shows that a start at the left pin, followed by an approach up the left side of the course, is the favored way to go.

The Start Sequence control allows you to set the ends of the line by a click when the boat passes by during the prestart (or enter lat-lon). The display is constantly updated to show the relative boat position and monitors wind velocity to automatically redetermine the favored end. The X1.0, X1.5, ... buttons control the horizontal scale of the display (horizontal and vertical distances are not to scale). There is also a "clock" display to count down to the start.
