Unique Force 4 Tools for Monitoring & Displaying Wind Variations
Displaying Wind Variations with Track Function (or with Track Replay) |
|
| Most programs provide a facility for recording and plotting different variables as a function of time. Often this is referred to as a "stripchart." (See the Force 4 stripcharts) Stripcharts show the time-variation of wind, and other variables of interest. ONLY Force 4 allows you to record and display the spatial variation of wind. This can be especially helpful in a repetitive situation, such as in windward- leeward racing. This example shows wind vectors at a series of times, using "Replay." | ![]() |
| With Track Replay, you can run rapidly through a prior race, or pause at any intermediate point. The display automatically resets to show actual current and wind at that time, so you can see the race as it occurred. Wind vectors can be displayed "live," as you sail, or during a Track Replay. | |
Displaying Predicted Wind Along Comparison Routes at Timepoints of Force 4 Routing Solution |
|
| The Force 4 Router uses predicted wind along the various routes to estimate boat speed, and thereby the time to reach the next intermediate point. In order to better understand the solution, you can display predicted winds along each of the optimal and comparison routes AT THE TIME the boat arrives there. In this example the winds are lighter to the right of the image (or to the left of the course, as observed from the boat in moving from point "48" south to the destination). This is reflected in the larger times required for the blue and green routes (see Best Course Comparisons box). This display helps you to visualize the course as a whole, and better appreciate why the optimal route is quicker. It can also help you identify where the routing may be sensitive to a region of light air that may or may not be predicted with sufficient accuracy. ONLY Force 4 provides this feature, to enhance the effectiveness of its routing function. | |
