Ft Lauderdale to Key West Race -
Jan 11-13, 2001
Current and Wind Models
Tactical Software
| Current Models: immediately prior to the race, we will
deliver a detailed, digital current model of the entire route, from Ft Lauderdale to Key
West, based on an analysis of recent satellite data in collaboration with oceanographer
Jenifer Clark. The model can be accessed through one of our tactical PC programs, or via a
DLL which supports Deckman for Windows and the Racevision system. Wind
Models: immediately prior to the race, we will deliver a high resolution (every 1/3
of a degree) wind model for the days of the race, with timepoints every 3 hours. This can
be accessed through our tactical programs. (Not available for DFW) |

Our current models compute current at each
point of the region. The currents vectors shown above are only by way of example. As you
zoom in, our programs show more and more detail.

| Our wind models are based on the latest
meterological forecasts, and interpolate between timepoints every 3 hours. Like our
current models, the wind model is computed continuously at each point on the chart. |
Options and Pricing
The Florida current model is in a
digital computer format, in files that are provided the day prior to the race. If your
boat has the Racevision system, permitting live computer use of the Deckman for Windows
(DFW) program during the race, then the best option is our "current server" DLL
for DFW, priced at $500. This inputs our current predictions into all of the usual DFW
functions.
If you don't have DFW, another choice is our "Force
2 PLUS" program, which displays our current and wind predictions over electronic
charts of the region (included). This can be used to lay out waypoints and courses,
predict times to complete each leg and the entire course, compute current-corrected
headings, do boat simulations, show current-corrected laylines, etc. It connects to your
GPS for live navigation onboard, but you can also use it to study the currents in advance
and make screenprints at various times and locations to take along on the boat.
This enhanced version of our basic "Force
2" program costs $500, and comes complete with our "chartmaker" facility
(see our website at URL: http://www.goflow.com/offchart.htm),
and our "point & click" wind model utility. For the Ft Lauderdale to Key
West Race, we will have a wind model available for $150, with a model resolution of 1/3 of
a degree and timepoints every three (3) hours (the program interpolates between times and
computes from the model between points). Note: the wind model cannot be called from DFW.
Better still - consider our offshore Tactical
Program - Force 4, with full weather routing, and
everything you could hope for in a top-of-the-line tactical racing program.
See details about Force 4 features |
With any of these programs, you need a
regional data set containing the current information. For offshore races, such as the Ft
Lauderdale race, the data for each race is based on analysis of immediately prior
satellite information, and there is a charge of $350 per race. Our US tidal-current
(annual) models are $200 per region, and our UK model with the Solent and English Channel
is $300. Once you have the program (or DLL), you can purchase additional regional coverage
when you need it.
