Chartmaker Facility for Local Knowledge Tactical Software
| Tired of paying for new electronic charts? Or
buying a chart CD when all you want is one area, or just for one-time use? Or staring at a
blank screen with only a lat-long grid in off-shore navigation? Our Chartmaker
utility program enables you take any image and convert it in seconds into a chart our
tactical software (Offchart Racer
& Force 4) can use for GPS
linkage and navigation. Scan a paper chart, make a screenprint of a friend's chart or
download a Color Weatherfax or any of thousands of free graphic images off the web,
including many kinds of satellite views for off-shore navigation. |
| LOCAL (FLAT) CHARTS |
| There are many sites on the web where you can download free local chart-images. Use Chartmaker to convert such an image into a working, navigational chart in a few seconds, so you can track boat position via GPS, define waypoints and courses, have automatic deadreckoning backup - all of the important functions of an expensive navigation program, and without spending a dime on electronic charts! See EXAMPLE |
SATELLITE (CIRCULAR) CHARTS
| There are all sorts of free satellite images,
updated daily, sometimes hourly, on the web, which show ordinary and infrared photographic
views of portions of the Earth, weather predictions, wave heights and many other views.
These make great charts for offshore navigation. Instead of looking at a blank screen with
a lat-long grid, you can place your boat in context with storm systems, barometric and
wind predictions, etc. With these charts, our tactical software computes both rhumbline
and Great Circle courses. Lay out a course in seconds with its point-and-click
Course-Builder utility. |

There are many possibilities for these "offshore" charts. For weather sites which offer different hour predictions (24, 48, etc.), build a separate chart within a given chart group (you define these to suit), and switch from one to the other to see how well your course at different timepoints fits the weather and wind predictions. Or build a group with an infrared chart, a wind chart, a wave heights chart, etc. If you have a SS radio which can download a Color WeatherFax, convert this into a chart on the spot. The Chartmaker comes without charge with Offchart Racer or Force 4. With this feature, and the charts included with the package, you never have to purchase an electronic chart again! See www.goflow.com for details. |
