| The LK Router (standard with ADVANTAGE) is unique in the industry, computing both the optimal route and a number of comparison routes that provide more insight into the navigational options. The example below used our 16-day wind file forecast to compute the optimal (red) route from LA to Oahu, assuming Santa Cruz 52 polars. The optimal route is estimated to take some 287 hours. The times for the comparison routes (other colors) are shown in the 'Best Course Comparisons' form (color-coded to match route). The winds shown are as predicted at the start. There is a high-pressure zone directly along the rhumbline (and great circle route) with very light winds. The red route is shown to go through this region, but the wind pattern is evolving as the boat sails. By the time it reaches that point, the wind hole has shifted to the NW (see next). | |

| The routing result form allows you step along at time intervals and see predicted boat positions on each of the comparison routes at any intermediate time (black dots). By checking the 'T' option box, the wind display automatically resets to the intermediate time (shown at bottom). Below, at 1845 UTC on 6/7, the high now lies NW of the boat on the red route. The right-hand column of the 'Best Course Computations' form shows distance to the destination from the black dot. The display not only enables you to get a better feel for the routing; you can test both the wind model and the accuracy of your polars by comparing actual boat position to the predicted position at any time. The router enables you to adjust for this if required | |

| The image below shows the situation a few days lower. The boat sailing the northermost (yellow) route has done directly into the wind hole, and this is reflected in a time differential of more than 55 hours compared to the optimal red route. The green route is almost as bad, having better wind but involving a great deal of extra, unnecesary distance. | |
