Windward-Leeward Course Function Sets Up & Readjusts Course Automatically
Load a Windward-Leeward Course and the Tactical Display Works Automatically Until the Finish |
| When you load a Windward-Leeward course, the following control appears. If you happen to know lat-lon coords for the windward and leeward marks, you can enter them, but often you do not. This control enables you to estimate the position of the leeward mark by location of the boat (click to set at present location), and to estimate the windward mark by range and bearing (or dead upwind). This estimation is automatically corrected by the program as you sail. When you round the windward mark, the program notes this and recomputes it, and likewise when you return downwind and round the leeward mark. The options at the bottom of the form allow you to set the number of legs and various tactical computations. With the selections shown, when you hit 'Apply,' Force 4 will calculate and display the marks, the current- corrected layline, the time to and intercept of the layline at present heading, switch to the VMG display (see VMG) and turn on the "Best Tack" (or "What-if") computations, all of which reset every few seconds. |

| The display below results from the above selections. After you round each mark, the program calculates and displays the layline at the next mark, and all the tactical computations reset to reflect the new leg. |
